Wine additives and what Chemicals that you didn’t know went into making that “On The Shelves” and “Over The Counter Wine that you are consuming. The information discovery is frightening! While researching (because True Fine Wine is a big part of my business website and that is what we do). I wanted to investigate. What the “Big Buzz” is for people who don’t (or won’t) take the time to understand what a TRUE FINE WINE is. AND… is so much better then what we are use to finding at their local grocery or liquors stores. I searched many different sites looking at the differences between “True Fine Wines;” AND… those on our store shelves that are considered “Mass Produced.” The information found is truly SHOCKING!!
I am not a big wine drinker myself, but what I am learning more and more daily. AND… it being something that I am working with on a daily basis, I wanted to make sure that I knew as much as possible for myself and to share here with my Fellow Readers. There is distinct difference that most people weather you drink wine or know someone who does. This information that I have found should help you as well as myself understand; “Why Fine Wine?”
U.S. Food & Drug Administration (or as we all know it as FDA) wants companies to list all ingredients (chemicals) on the labels. Well the “Mass” Wine Producers are fighting that because WHY you ask? Well they have so many ingredients in what they are Hurrying to get on the store and liquor shelves; that it would take up their whole label and even more. They also wouldn’t be able to sell to the stores that are looking for “Natural” products. Because as you read, you will see that there is little that is “Natural” about these Mass Produced Wines that many of us are consuming. We trust the labels and stores to be providing us what they advertise RIGHT!! Well let us take a look and see what I found.

Sulfur Dioxide or Sulfites ~ These are natural occurring as all wines have sulfites in them. This is also an added preservative found in wines. But many companies are adding EXTRA Sulfites to preserve the shelf life. True Fine Wines have there own slight amount of sulfites; but they are Natural and come from the grapes themselves (not man made ones).
Acetaldeyde ~ Does damage to your DNA preventing the body from repairing itself. Other results are: rapid heart beats, facial flushing and nausea. You have just found out the REAL reason that your get headaches when drinking wine that has this additive.
Arsenic ~ Cancer causing agents have been discovered with Arsenic. With possible lesions to the skin. Other concerns are: cardiovascular disease as well as diabetes. In utero & Arsenic exposure has been linked to a having a negative impact with the cognitive development with development in their early childhood years. AND… increased deaths with a young adult.
Mega Purple ~ Think of food coloring or concentrated grape juice. When added Mega Purple gives makes your dark wines appearance a much darker look. The True Fine Wine Makers use a hybrid grape called Rubired that was developed in 1950’s. Making it a Natural product being put into your True Fine Wines. Not a Man Made short cut product.
Velcorin ~ The reason for this additive is to Help prevent yeast spoilage or refermentation. It is also used to replacement or allowing the decrease of the amount of sorbate; AND… Which is used with some wines that contain reidual sugars.
Animal Products ~ They are added and used to bind & remove unwanted substances from The wine; as they are being filtered out. This Includes items such as: blood; bone marrow; milk protein; crustacean shells fiber; egg albumen (used from egg whites; fish oils; the gelatin (from boiling parts) including the gelatin from the membranes of the fish bladder.
Commercial Yeast ~ The True Fine Wines do not add more yeast. Their is a white powder on the outside of the grapes that is the Natural yeast. But for Mass producers of wine they need to speed up the process; so they add commercial yeasts for faster fermentation purposes.
Sugar ~ This being added doesn’t make the wine sweeter (as that is why WE add sugar). Here’s why – the yeast consumes the sugar when it is fermented into alcohol. Sugar being added is used in order to increase the alcohol levels. Finishing the wine NOT to make it sweeter.
Read Enough? Well you need to Read ON!!
Tannins ~ Come from the seeds, skins and stems of the grapes and the barrels. This is the true structure of wines. But once again, mass commercial producers add more. Ones that they are using come from chestnuts; an Indian gooseberry and a gambir leaf.
Tartaric Acids ~ helping to control acidity of wine. Considered as one of the “Strongest “acids in wine making. Tararic Acid has a crucial role; it enhances the taste; feel & color of a wine. Believe it or not, some wines PH levels are balanced with having chalk added in to help.
Diethylene glycol ~ A very scary additive for consumption. In the mid 80’s this additive was found in German & Italian Wines. When added, this made their wines sweet tasting. This is also the “Sweet Tasting” chemical that is used in anti-freeze that we put in our vehicles (not wine) to keep it’s temperatures controlled. AND… I am sure not going to drink that!!
Not all the above Additives / chemicals are hazardous to your overall health. As you will see the distinct difference as you read on. Hopefully will help you to understand; AND… possibly think Real Hard when you go to purchase that next Mass Produced Bottle of wine. Considering what kind of True Fine Wine you may want to have for your next consumption.
Even More Wine Additives!
There are so many additives that find their way into your Grocery and Liquor Store wines. AND… some chemicals as well. Food coloring (some people have allergies to food dyes especially red and yellow ones). This is used to give their consumers the same exact Mass Produced product every time. They expect it from that specific name brand. Others are: acids like ascorbic and citric; gum arabic; activated carbon; copper sulfates; ammonium phosphates; alumino-silicates; polyoxyethylene 40 castor oil; dimethyl dicarbonate; carbohydrase and oak chips. I am sure you are just as confused about what some of these additives are as I am! Many long words that are hard to even pronounce.
